Lynn Dudley, Midwife, North Staffordshire Maternity Hospital
Research Project: Repair following vaginal delivery complicated by infected wound (PREVIEW study)
Lynn Dudley, is a senior midwife currently working on the central delivery suite at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire. She has worked as a midwife for the past 18 years and specialises in intra-partum care.
The main aim of her research will be to compare the therapeutic effectiveness of re-suturing versus conservative management on the healing rate and associated morbidity of dehisced perineal wounds following childbirth. Perineal wound infection and breakdown in the immediate postpartum period can be devastating for women and is associated with short and long term morbidity, including severe pain and inability to care for their baby and other family members. Currently there is little research evidence to inform practice and therefore this work has the potential to improve the care provided for women locally, nationally and internationally.
Lynn will be undertaking her PhD at Staffordshire University.
