Research Project: A quantitative study to establish the prevalence of foot ulcers in a sample of patients with rheumatoid arthritis & describe the clinical characteristics of a sub-sample in comparison with unaffected patients
Jill has studied the prevalence of foot ulcers in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and the clinical characteristics of patients affected by the problem.
Her research focussed on tissue viability in the rheumatoid foot, which is a well recognised problem, but poorly understood by clinicians, due to a lack of research in the area. The study examined the prevalence of foot ulcers in patients with rheumatoid arthritis and aims to identify the clinical characteristics that may influence the development of foot ulcers in this client group. This research will inform the development of multi-disciplinary guidelines for the prevention and optimal care of foot ulceration in rheumatoid arthritis.
Jill was awarded her PhD at the University of Leeds.
Since completing her PhD, Jill has been awarded a Smith & Nephew Foundation Post-doctoral Nursing Research Fellowship.
