2007 Post-doctoral Nursing Research Fellowship winner
Jill Firth, Research Fellow, School of Healthcare, University of Leeds
Research Project: An exploration of the perspectives of patients and professionals relating to foot ulceration in rheumatoid arthritis.
Jill Firth, formerly a Rheumatology Nurse Specialist, is undertaking a programme of research at the University of Leeds which focuses on foot ulceration in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Jill's doctoral research examined the prevalence and predictors of foot ulceration in this client group, using survey methods validated by clinical examination and a preliminary case control analysis.
In Jill's post-doctoral research she will be undertaking depth interviews to elicit the impact of foot ulceration on the individual and their experience of care provision. In a second study, she intends to combine observation and interview methods to explore clinical decision making among nurses and podiatrists in the management of foot ulceration and the factors that determine the care pathways of affected patients.
